I am going to change the way I post Commissary deals. A couple months ago the following message posted on Commissaries.com:
Caution
DoD Instruction 1330.17 prohibits the dissemination of commissary product prices in or on any media intended to leave the commissary store. Product prices displayed on this web page are provided solely for the benefit of commissary patrons and are not intended to leave this “virtual commissary.” Sharing of these prices or price lists with others not authorized to shop in the commissary, or sharing them with someone who intends to publish them in a manner inconsistent with DoD Instruction 1330.17 may be considered to be an abuse of commissary privileges and may subject the patron to the penalties outlined in the Instruction.
After reading DoD Instruction 1330.17, it appeared to me that this meant “written” methods of leaving the store with prices. I am still not very clear on exactly what it means because there are fliers in the Commissary (and online) that contain the prices of products in the Commissary.
That being said — I am not going to post the prices of products until I get this cleared up (I just left a message on the DECA FB page and am awaiting a response). I will still post good deals but I will give the final price as a “less than $$” rather than an exact. That way I am not disclosing Commissary prices.
In my opinion, I think the policy is a little silly. I’m not sure why the prices can’t be shared. It isn’t like the military families don’t work for the lower prices — they (or their spouses) risk their lives for this country. Really? Who cares if we get a few lower prices.
I also think it causes the Commissary to lose business. I know several people that do not shop at the Commissary as much as they used to because they can take the coupons elsewhere and get a better deal. Now it is difficult to even let other military families know about a good deal at the Commissary when it comes around.
{Stepping off my soap box} All of that to say — the Commissary deals will be posted slightly differently these days.

A couple things to keep in mind while shopping at the Commissary:
- It is actually in the Deca Coupon Policy to allow for overage on an item if you the value of the coupon is more than the cost of an item. Be sure to have something to cover this overage when buying overage items.
- You cannot resell items you buy at the Commissary. It is ok to give these items as gifts but it is against Deca’s policy to resell these items since you do not pay taxes on the products you buy there.
- On the travel-sized products — I would check with your store to see if they have these before you order coupons (if you intend to do so). Not all Commissary stores carry a large selection of these products.
- If you plan to buy a lot of an item, you can place an order at the Cash Office inside of your Commissary. They will need the UPC number. Even if you do not see an item on the shelf, your store might be able to order the product specifically for you. If you do this, be sure to buy the products. Do not leave them un-purchased.
A HUGE thank you to Mary (militarystoredeals) for sharing her walk-through finds with us!

Yes! As of today it is official and in writing.
Today on the DECA Facebook page, it was posted that the Commissary DOES accept Walgreen’s Register Rewards. This makes me very happy! I would definitely print this out and take it to the store with you when you shop just in case.
From the page:
DeCA does not participate in Walgreens Register Rewards per se; however, we do accept the manufacturer coupons that print out on the registers at Walgreens and other retailers, provided the verbiage does not limit redemption only to the retailer advertised on the coupon. For example, if the manufacturer coupon states “Redeemable at” or “Redeem at,” we can accept it; if it states “Redeemable ONLY at” or “Redeem ONLY at,” we cannot.
While these coupons may reference Walgreens Register Rewards or have a Walgreens or another retailer’s logo printed on them, we are accepting these as a manufacturer’s coupon.
All commissaries were provided clarification on these types of coupons. If you experience any issues with redeeming them at your commissary, ask to see the manager on duty while you’re in the commissary or fill out a customer comment form at http://www.commissaries.com/YAL/customer_comments.cfm and let us know.
Thanks, katey.jones @ WUC
