PX/BX

This week the PX/BX is having a BOGO 50% off sale on Leapfrog Leapster games. (Remember, that not all AAFES stores have the same prices. You can check the prices for your store HERE)

Honestly, I do not know how much the games are at the PX. I will use the Target price of $24.89 for the following scenario.

{Scenario}
Buy (2) Leapfrog Leapster games – $24.98 ($59.96)
–Use (2) $5/1 Leapfrog Leapster games coupon PRINT – $10 off
–Get 1/2 off 2nd game – $12.49 off
…(2) Leapfrog Leapster games for $37.47 (or $18.74 each) AND you do not have to pay tax — that is a savings of $4.38 in my city!

AAFES has posted a few new printable coupons on their Facebook. There are a couple great things about these coupons. First, they can be stacked with manufacturer’s coupons! Second, you can print as many as you want!

These particular coupons do not have any MQs to pair with them.

The PX/BX has Rimmel eyeliner for $2.15. There was a printable coupon a few weeks ago for $2/1 Rimmel product (no longer available). If you do not have that coupon, you can use the $1/1 coupon that is available now.

Apparently this eyeliner is priced around $4 at Target.

{Scenario}
Buy (1) Rimmel Eyeliner – $2.15

Use one of the following coupons:
–$2/1 Rimmel Product Printable Coupon (no longer available)
–$1/1 Rimmel Product (6/27 RP, 8/1 RP)
$.15-$1.15 each after coupon

I have already mentioned the many great coupons in this week’s upcoming 6/6 PG insert. Inside there will be a $4/1 Gillette Fusion Razor coupon.

If you don’t plan to get the paper, my BX has $2/1 Fusion tearpad coupons hanging near the razors. They have been there for months.

Gillette Fusion Razors (Power and regular) – $4.99
-$4/1 Gillette Fusion Razor (6/6 PG) ($4 off)
-$2/1 Gillette Fusion or Venus Razor (tearpad)
…as low as $.99 after coupon

Remember, the PX doesn’t charge tax so this is a really great deal in that regard!

For those of you that don’t know, the BX/PX (Base Exchange/Post Exchange) is a military-only shopping facility.

While shopping at the BX yesterday, I found CoverGirl foundation (little glass bottles) on clearance for $.77 each.

CoverGirl Foundation -$.77
-$1/1 CoverGirl coupon ($1 off) (5/2 PG)
OR
-$2.50/2 CoverGirl coupon
…as low as FREE (+ up to $.96 overage wyb 2 if your store allows it) after coupon

There were also a couple different brands of lipstick on clearance. I think after coupon they were less than $1 but I always wait for FREE makeup.

I haven’t posted my shopping trips in quite some time. Believe it or not, I have taken pictures of almost all of my trips but in the move I misplaced my memory card reader and couldn’t upload them. As luck would have it, I found it yesterday!

Yesterday I had a couple coupons expiring so I thought I would go out after the garage sale and try to use them up. I ended up going to the PX, Family Dollar, and Walgreens.

My Trip to the PX

I purchased:

  • (2) pairs of Sandals for my girls – $9.99 ($19.98)
    *Sale price through today*
  • Wow Wow Wubbzy Earth Day DVD – $9.99
Used (1) $2/1 Wow Wow Wubbzy DVD Coupon (no longer available)
  • 13 boxes of Vicks Cough Drops – $.65 ($8.45)
Used (13) $1.50/1 any Vicks Product Coupon (expired yesterday!)

…Final OOP after coupons –> $16.88 for (2) pairs of sandals, Wow Wow Wubbzy DVD, and 13 boxes of Vicks Cough Drops!

Why I did it: I went to the PX and used a few of the Vicks coupons earlier this week since I knew they were producing a large overage. I knew they had them in stock and I knew they had the Wow Wow Wubbzy DVD (I told my girls they couldn’t have it the last time we were there) so I thought I would get a FREE DVD for the girls with the Vicks overage and the $2/1 coupon. I had to get something else to eat the overage so I stopped by the shoes to see what they had for spring.

Tip: Have some sort of plan before you walk into a store with your coupons. If you will have overage, have a plan for this. Although the products are FREE, get something you need or else it is wasted money.

My trip to Walgreens

I bought:

  • (16) boxes of Vicks Cough Drops – 2/$1.79 ($14.32)
Used (9) $1.50/1 Vicks Cough Drop Coupon
  • (2) Bottles of Pantene Pro-V Shampoo – $2.29 (clearance price) ($4.58)
Used (1) $3/2 Pantene Products Coupon
  • (2) Bottles of Pantene Pro-V Conditioner – $2.59 (clearance price) ($5.18)
Used (1) $3/2 Pantene Products Coupon
  • (3) Rolls of Scotch Packaging Tape – $3.49 ($10.47)
    Used (1) In-Ad Walgreens $.99 Tape Coupon
Used (3) $1/1 Scotch Packaging Tape Coupons

…Final OOP after coupons –> $4.55 + tax for (4) bottles of Pantene shampoo and conditioner, 3 rolls of Scotch packaging tape, and 16 boxes of Vicks cough drops.

Why I did it: I have had my eye on the Pantene shampoo and conditioner for well over a month now. The price has slowly come down since it was marked on clearance. I knew I had the $3/2 coupons that were expiring yesterday so I was really glad to see the clearance price had come down a bit more. :)
The Scotch packaging tape was FREE so there was no reason not to get it.
When I walked out of the store I realized that I shouldn’t have purchased the Vicks. The only reason I bought them was because I had ordered some coupons to use at the PX thinking I could place a special order and that ended up not being the case (lesson learned!) and I wanted to use the coupons. Considering I don’t use the cough drops, I could have just left well enough alone and saved $1.72 (including tax) — that is what I paid for the cough drops.

Lesson Learned: Just because you have coupons doesn’t mean you have to use them — especially if you are not going to use the product and it doesn’t yield a resale return! (Keep in mind that it is against the PX/Commissary policy to resale products purchased there since you are not paying tax).

My Trip to Family Dollar

I posted about my trip to the Family Dollar yesterday. I am so happy to have been able to get this deal.

I bought:

  • (11) bottles of Dawn Hand Renewal Dish Soap (in 11 transactions!)
Used (11) $.50/1 Dawn Dish Soap Family Dollar Coupons (found at the entrance in a coupon book)
    -AND-
Used (2) $1/1 Dawn Hand Renewal Coupons (Homemade Simple Mailer)
Used (9) $.50/1 Dawn Hand Renewal Coupons

…$3.72 (after tax) for (11) bottles of Dawn Hand Renewal Dish Soap

Why I did it: This is the only dish soap I use (when I actually was the dishes by hand). It doesn’t make my hands super dry and yucky.
I got the first (2) bottles because they were FREE (+tax)! I got the other 9 bottles because even though they weren’t free, they were only $.35 + tax. In my house, this is definitely a stockpile price! On top of that, my coupons were expiring today. Unlike the Vicks scenario above, I don’t like coupons to expired on products I use especially when their price range falls in my “stockpile” price range.

Lessons Learned: You have to stand your ground when you aren’t doing anything wrong. Be your own advocate. If you are legally using coupons, don’t let someone get away with treating you like a criminal.

The Final Tally

So, all in all yesterday, I ended up spending $25.15 on (11) bottles of dish soap, 2 pairs of shoes, 4 bottles of Pantene shampoo/conditioner, 3 rolls of packing tape, and 29 boxes of Vicks cough drops.

Considering my girls needed shoes and I needed shampoo (I scored on the Dove deal a few weeks ago but I didn’t like how it made my hair feel), this was a very successful shopping day for me.

Did you have a successful shopping week? Did you get in on the crazy free deals at Walgreens this week (I never had the time to prepare)? Post a comment. I would love to hear how your week went…

I just came across information about an AAFES Mystery Shopper Program.

Information from the AAFES site:

This program allows AAFES to receive feedback and suggestions from customers like you.

To become a Mystery Shopper:

  • You cannot be an AAFES employee/nor a family member of an AAFES employee.
  • Only one member from a household may register.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You will be responsible for three sets of surveys for your current duty station (see information on survey sets below).

Mystery Shoppers are selected randomly from all completed registrations for the facility they shop and will be sent an invitation by email. You must accept this invitation within 7 days to become a valid Mystery Shopper. As a Mystery Shopper, you are responsible for completing 3 survey sets within a 6-month period. A survey set consists of a Main Store shop, a Services Shop (beauty, barber, dry cleaners, optical, florist, alterations), a Branch Store (automotive, Shoppette, MCSS, Troop Store), and a Theater shop if there is a theater at your installation.

NOTE: Each completed survey set must be at least 21 days apart to ensure best results. You will receive a $30 gift certificate, and a night at the movies on us (two theater passes with two large bags of popcorn and two medium drinks) after you’ve submitted each completed survey set. (If your current duty station does not have a theater you will only receive the $30 gift certificate.)

Upon completion of the 3 survey sets or after the 6-month time period, you will be automatically unregistered from the program, but you can re-register in six months for selection into the Mystery Shopper Program again. If you are not selected within 12 months from registering, you’ll need to register again. We require this in an attempt to keep out of date entries from being selected.

Sounds interesting. I just signed up. I hope I get selected!

So today while perusing the PX going in for the razor kill, I found Vicks cough drops for only $.69. For those of you that shop at Wags, these are the elusive cough drops that are so hard to find.

You can use the $1.50/1 any Vicks coupon to make these a sweet money-maker!! I only had 8 Qs (and just ordered 100 more — I will calling to place an order with the PX) so I used them to fill the difference on the fusion razors and I was able to pick up a few other things.

I got 8 boxes of cough drops, 5 fusion razors (I didn’t have more Qs), and 5 Fusion Shave gel (on sale + $1/1 Q) for only $.80! YAY! No sales tax and no crazy fee.

Also, I left there to go buy my Zantac and Schick razors that I ordered at the commisary. While there I found a new coupon book with Buy Fusion razor, get FREE Crest ProHealth toothpaste. I went back to the PX only to find that my store (very small) didn’t have the ProHealth. If yours does have it, you are in for a treat!

I love to shop!!
