Couponing 101: “The Scenario”
In my last article, I described how you can optimize couponing by coordinating several factors at once, including sales dates, multiple coupons, etc. These factors align perfectly every week for different products, but obviously not for every product at the same time. So, it’s to your advantage to stock up when the deal is right! So, how do you know when the “stars align”?
My website and others like it, figure out different scenarios that are basically a set of directions that tell you when to buy, what coupons to use, and when to use them. Here is a short example scenario:
{Scenario}
Buy (1) Crest Kid’s Toothpaste – $1.97
Use (1) $1/1 Crest Coupon (3/14 SS)
Use (1) $1/1 Crest Target Printable Coupon
**This coupon may no longer be available**
…FREE (+ $.03 overage if your stores allows it) after coupons
In this case, you can get Crest Kid’s Toothpaste for free if you use these two coupons. “3/14 SS” stands for “March 14th Smart Source” which is the coupon insert in your weekly Sunday newspaper. On the printable coupons, I always include a link to find them. Of course, to take full advantage of free toothpaste, you’ll want as many of this combination of coupons as possible to stockpile toothpaste until the next FREE sale comes along.
Sometimes, scenarios are more advanced and include multiple items and maybe even multiple transactions, requiring more coupons. In these situations, it is good to have access to many different types of coupons. Where will you get these coupons? I will answer this question in my next article, “Couponing 101: Types of Coupons”.
